Hospice Northwest presents “Towards a more compassionate Canada, Eh?” as this year’s theme for the Hike for Hospice Palliative Care. The hike is a national event hosted by hospices and palliative care organizations across Canada. While it does raise funds for the organizations, its larger purpose is to assist in building awareness within the communities about the importance of hospice palliative care and the kinds of programs and services Hospice Northwest provides.

The hike occurs annually on the first Sunday of May and kicks off National Palliative Care Week.
“Towards a more compassionate Canada, Eh?” is to encourage Canadians to reflect on what makes
a compassionate community in order to find ways to provide a better end of life care for all.

Leadership Thunder Bay will enhance and grow Hospice Northwest’s premier event; Hike for Hospice
Palliative Care by:

• Enhancing the memorial aspects of the hike.
• Building community education and awareness.
• Promoting open discussion.
• Strengthening community development.
• Raising funds indirectly through the hike set up process.
